While most of Florida's school mask mandates are cut and dry, Indian River County has started its new tiered approach strategy, based on the percentage of COVID cases on each campus.

If cases are less than 1 percent, face coverings remain optional at that particular school.

1 to 2 percent means masks are highly recommended.

Parents can opt their kids out of a mask mandate at schools where cases are from 3 to 4 percent and only medical opt-outs if cases go above 5 percent.

The new policy is in effect now for elementary schools and expands to middle schools on September 29th.
