(Sarasota, FL) -- A Sarasota Police officer helps a stranded coyote swim safely to shore.

WFLA reported yesterday that Sarasota Police Marine Patrol officer Ron Dixon responded to a call from a boater who thought he had spotted a dog swimming in Sarasota Bay.

Officer Dixon caught up with the animal and jumped in to see if he could save the dog but with no cooperation from the animal. He then realized the creature was actually a coyote. He changed strategy and navigated his watercraft behind the coyote slowly guiding the animal back to shore at Ken Thompson Park.

Officer Dixon says the coyote ran off into the woods.
