Gov. Ron DeSantis

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A woman described as a leading force in her community for civil rights is among those being honored by the state. Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday he has selected three inductees to the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.

Ethel Thelma Waters helped migrant families in Indiantown, in Martin County, in the 1960s and she helped bring a medical clinic and affordable housing to the community.

The other selections are Vero Beach's Alma Lee Loy, who was one of the state's first female sports writers, and Bunnell's Alice Scott Abbott, who was part of the women's suffrage movement in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
