LISTEN/LINKS: Get Help Applying For College Financial Aid

Before students can realistically consider college or other forms of higher learning, they need to know if they can afford it, and that's where the Free Application for Federal Student Aid - or FAFSA - comes in.

"It actually is the gateway to everything," says Shedly Casseus.

The College, Career & Life Readiness Specialist for Broward County Public Schools says applying for it determines grant money, low interest federal student loans and scholarship eligibility. Once submitted, that report goes to the schools and the schools come up with financial aid packages.

FAFSA Help

Realizing the pandemic has made just about everything challenging, Casseus says the school district is offering Virtual FAFSA Nights. Tonight, she and dozens of financial aid professionals will help students step-by-step as they complete the FAFSA.

Additional college access help can be obtained through Broward Bridge 2 Life. Click here for more information.

Casseus recommends families come to the online event with social security cards, FSAIDs and income tax returns.

You don't have to be enrolled in one of the schools listed on the website. In fact, you don't even have to live in Broward County. All students are invited to participate. "We don't discriminate. A student is a student. A college plan is a college plan. A post-secondary plan is a post-secondary plan. Us as educators, we're here to help whoever wants the help."

If you can't make tonight's 6:30 event, there are two additional Teams events next week.
