Weather Scubs SpaceX, NASA Launch Attempt

NASA and SpaceX will try again on Saturday to launch a new Crew Dragon capsule to the International Space Station.

Although skies were starting to clear, conditions violated launch criteria, forcing SpaceX to call a scrub.

It was an instantaneous launch window because the Falcon was chasing the I-S-S into orbit.

There are two launch opportunities this weekend. One is Saturday at 3:22 p.m. EDT, the other is Sunday at 3 p.m. For both launch attempts, the weather is about 50-50.

Astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken will be the first humans to launch from American soil since the shuttle program ended in 2011. Hurley, who is the commander of this DEMO-2 flight, was the pilot of the final shuttle flight nine years ago. Both men are veteran astroanuts and longtime friends. They were selected in the same astronaut class of 2000, where each man met and married their wives.

Once it launches, the duration of this DEMO-2 mission is uncertain. Hurely and Benhken will live aboard the International Space Station for up to four months while their space craft is checked out.
