South Florida Hospitals Join Opioid Lawsuit

Five South Florida hospitals are joining an effort to confront opioid makers.

Broward Health Hospital District, Delray Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, as well as Good Samaritan Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center, are among the hospitals named in the lawsuit.

These hospitals are among 27 in the state that filed suit this week against more than 30 companies, including Johnson and Johnson, Purdue Pharma, and Abbott Laboratories.

The lawsuit claims the hospitals have suffered financial hardship as a result of treating opioid addicts and their newborns who exhibit withdrawal symptoms.

The plaintiffs are seeking millions in damages.
