More Than 1.2 MILLION Gallons Of Sewage Overflowed In Palm Beach County

More than 1.2 MILLION gallons of sewage overflowed in Palm Beach County over the weekend, due to the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Philippe.

Officials say the spill happened at a regional treatment plant that serves the cities of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach and Lake Worth.

The plant was reportedly overwhelmed by the nearly six inches of rain that swept near the area Saturday and spilled the treated sewage over its containment chambers and into a retention pond.

Plant workers chlorinated the mess, cleaned and disinfected the plant's chambers and conducted sampling to make sure fecal bacterial counts were within proper limits.
